Are you sick of wearing contacts or glasses to correct your vision, but unsure if surgery is right for you? At the office of Monrovia Optometry, we can talk to you about another, non-surgical option called ortho-k.
Ortho-k is short for orthokeratology. It’s a non-surgical, corrective eye treatment prescribed by our office. The great thing about ortho-k is that unlike LASIK, it does not require a surgical procedure. Instead, ortho-k is a process that corrects vision using a special contact lens that reshapes the cornea.
What’s involved?
To determine if ortho-k is a good option for you, your doctor will complete a thorough eye exam to ensure your eyes are healthy and check your vision. If you and your doctor think you are a good candidate for ortho-k, the next step is to get fitted for the lenses. Typically, you will be instructed to wear the lenses at night for about one to four weeks. Throughout this period, you will have regular check ups to ensure the lenses are working correctly.
Is Ortho-k Right for You?
Ortho-k is usually recommended to correct nearsightedness. Some questions to think about when considering if ortho-k is right for you include:
If you answered yes to these questions, ortho-k may be a good choice for you. It is a safe alternative to surgery that can have a positive impact on your life. Talk to us about it, and we can help you make an informed decision.
